Filipinos are avid watchers of television. It’s one appliance that is almost never missing in our living rooms! Even social media is exploding with our love for television, or at least the shows we watch on it.  On twitter, the trending topics always include several of our favorite shows or TV personalities. Literature is often adapted into TV shows or films! That’s how influential television is!

There are currently plenty of kinds of televisions available on the market, each one boasting of different perks. With so many choices, how on earth will you know which one to buy? To help you with your decision-making woes, here is a short list of things that you should ask a trusted electrical supplier in the Philippines before making a purchase.

Display Types

In terms of display, there are four types of television that you should consider:

LCD

LCD or Liquid Crystal Displays is your cheapest option. However, it has limited viewing angles. This means that people who sit on either sides of the screen might have a hard time viewing the screen. On the bright side, LCD TVs are energy efficient.

OLED

LED lights are used to create the images on OLED or Organic Light Emitting Diode TVs. It has limited viewing angles (like the LCD) but is more expensive. However, it’s even less power hungry compared to LCD TVs. OLED TVs create bright, high quality images that would be helpful when the light is on while you’re watching TV.

LED

LED TVs are also a bit like LCD TVs, except that instead of liquid crystal, it uses LED as backlight. It costs a little more, but can save you more power.

Plasma

Compared to the other three, Plasma TVs’ advantage is high-quality cinematic viewing. Its excellent color quality makes for beautiful images. They aren’t as bright, but Plasma TVs provide wide viewing angle. This ensures that no matter where you are sitting, you’ll always get a clear picture.

Screen Resolution

Another thing to consider when buying television is the screen resolution. The image that appears on our TV’s screen is made up of pixels. Basically, screen resolution is the amount of horizontal and vertical pixels that your screen can display.

TVs with high resolution will give you a more detailed image. HD TVs usually come in two screen resolutions: 1280 x 720 and 1920 x 1080. Most television sets these days are HD. In comparison, a 4K TV set has a bigger screen resolution of 3840 x 2160.

However, if you are planning on buying a small TV, it might be better to go with HD. You’ll enjoy 4K resolution better if you have a large TV.

Contrast Ratio

Contrast ratio is the difference between the brightest white color and darkest black color that your TV can create. Basically, high contrast ratio is usually more advisable. When your TV has a low contrast ratio, black images tend to appear more gray than black and white images.

Even if you’re not a very techy person, these three factors should help you determine which TV is right for your home. And don’t forget, it’s also very important to take into account the quality of the video you’re screening to ensure a great viewing experience!
